Hub Craftsmen in Overwhelming Response to Founding of New Hub Organization For some time there has been felt the need for a Lithographic Club in Boston. A club to be operated and managed by craftsmen for social gatherings and for the dissemination of knowledge and the furtherance of the best interests of the Lithographic Industry. A recent survey of the Litho shops in and around Boston resulted in the immediate return of over 125 signatures from craftsmen who signified their willingness to become members of such a club and promises from others. In view of this surprising interest it was suggested that a group of prominent lithographic craftsmen in this area come together to discuss the organization of a Boston Litho Club. This meeting took place on Thursday, May 1st, 1947, and a club was established. Those present were: Kurt Stempner and A. E. Heubach, Rust Craft Publishers, Inc.; William Driscoll and Douglas F. Reilly, Buck Printing Co.; Charles F. Anderson, Raymond Faulkner and C. E. Mallet, Rand Avery-Gordon Taylor, Inc.; James Haylock and Lawrence Reed, Forbes Lithograph Co.; Joseph Ulrich, Spaulding Moss Co.; Gordon Norris and William Durney, Topping House; Ed Harnish, Ticknor Bros.; Phillip Kirby and George Marsh, Fuchs & Lang Mfg. Co.; James Beldotti, Winthrop Printing & Offset Co.; Arnold Kirshin, Alpine Press; Al Wain, Metropolitan Lithograph Co.; and Dan Iappini, A. T. Howard Co. After a talk given by William Stevens of the National Association of Litho Clubs Charles E. Mallet was voted acting chairman and A. E. Heubach acting secretary. The chair was then empowered to appoint the following temporary officers and governing board: Mr. Ed. Harnish, Temporary President; Mr. James Haylock, Temporary Vice-President; Mr., Joseph Ulrich, Temporary Secretary; Mr. Douglas Reilly, Temporary Treasurer. Governing Board: 1 year- Mr. Ed I Harnish, Mr. Phillip Kirby, Mr. Raymond Faulkner; 2 years - Mr. James Haydock, Mr. Charles Mallet, Mr. A. E. Heubach; 3 years-Mr. Joseph Ulrich, Mr. James Beldotti, Mr. Douglas Reilly. Considerable enthusiasm is evident. The men are meeting regularly each week and will continue to do so until all preliminary matters are settled. Membership applications will be in the mail very soon. First regular meeting planned for next September. The membership committee consists of: Phillip J. Kirby, Fuchs & Lang Mfg. Co., (Chairman); Frank Durney, Topping House Ltd.; Curt Reed, I.P.I.; Albert Wain, Metropolitan Litho & Pub. Co.; Kurt Stempner, Rust Craft Publishers, Inc.; William J. I)Driscoll, Buck Printing Co.; and Stanley Howell, Eagle Printing Ink. Membership enrollments will be accepted and passed upon during the next three months and the first regular meeting is scheduled for the second Wednesday in September. | ||
